When I was a resident in plastic surgery at UCLA, one of my professors left a lasting impression by telling me that surgery is not a solo performance, but rather a bit like being in a quartet. The surgeon, anesthesiologist, scrub nurse and circulating nurse act together, in unison, to create the best possible circumstances for the best possible outcome.

Allen S. Cohen, M.D.

Director of Anesthesia

Born in New York City, Dr. Allen Cohen graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the University of Rochester. In 1971 he graduated from the New York University School of Medicine with honors from the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. He served his internship in Internal Medicine at UCLA. Hospital after which he remained at UCLA. and completed one year of residency in the Department of General Surgery and an additional year of residency in the Division of Head and Neck Surgery. After his internship and surgery training, he completed the Anesthesiology Residency and then served as Chief Resident in Anesthesiology at UCLA in 1976.
